Julie obtained a First Class Masters of Science in Forensic and Analytical Science with Industrial Experience from the University of Huddersfield in 2013. Her dissertation involved investigating the credibility of mathematical models to predict compression parameters in tablet compaction; under the supervision of Dr Peter Laity. While at the university Julie also attended workshops in Bucharest, Romania at the Institute of Legal Medicine in Forensic Pathology and Anthropology. Julie’s industrial placement was carried out at MedImmune LLC (AstraZenenca) in Cambridge, within the formulation department (collaborating with Novozymes, Nottingham). Her work involved stability studies of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies to support pre-clinical and phase 1 clinical trials.
After graduating Julie was awarded a prestigious President’s Doctoral Scholarship (PDS) award from the University of Manchester to undertake a PhD research project under the supervision of Prof. Peter Gardner (co supervised by Dr Nicholas Lockyer). The project is also in collaboration with the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research. Julie’s research involves the development of infrared spectroscopy techniques for the clinical diagnosis of prostate cancer in blood serum.
