John Egbe Agbike is currently a Postgraduate Research Student in the Gardner group at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology, University of Manchester. John is highly analytical with excellent planning and organisation skills. His project focuses on using Fourier Transform Infrared and Optical Tweezer Raman Spectroscopy to track the effects of biological molecules and cytotoxic agents on the human prostate cancer cells, while also exploring state-of-the-art cell culture techniques.

John worked on method development and validation of analytical instruments while studying Analytical Chemistry at Kingston University London, an institution where he obtained his Master’s degree. While at Kingston University, he had the opportunity to interact and explored various specialized analytical techniques such as, UV-Vis, Mass Spectrometry, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), HPLC, Infrared Spectroscopy, Raman Spectroscopy, etc.

John Agbike was an undergraduate at the Benue State University, Makurdi, Nigeria, where he obtained a B.Sc. in Chemistry with Second Class Honours (Upper Division), he worked on Carboxylates Analysis where he reviewed various techniques used in analysing carboxylates and also phytochemical screening.

John is a seasoned scholar, with over 8 years of teaching experience in the Federal College of Education, Oyo, Nigeria. John’s experience in teaching people with disabilities and learning difficulties has equipped him with vast knowledge of inclusiveness in the educational sector and inspires him to continue to advocate for an inclusive society. His experience has provided him with several skills, including the ability to adapt to new and challenging environments he is placed in. John is a team player, a go-getter with good interpersonal skills.

John has also developed management skills while working at the prestigious Zenith Bank Plc in Nigeria, where he grew through the ranks to a management position of Cash Officer. This position provided him with skills and knowledge in leadership, team building, basic banking operations, basic accounting procedures, identification of risky transactions, exploring the psychology of a fraudster, etc.

In his spare time, John enjoys sports such as soccer, lawn tennis, basketball, and board games such as chess and Ludo. John also has a deep interest in politics and entrepreneurial activities. John is easy-going and gets along well with others.
